Facebook Love My Husband

So we just spent about 1/3 of our media class talking about facebook, what is the first thing I do when I get out of class? Get on facebook, without even realizing it!
We talked about sending messages of love on facebook and well I ALWAYS do this to my husband. I didn't write on his wall yesterday because I decided to be a little more traditional and write him a letter...I think he liked that better. I really didn't notice how often I write things on his wall for example....

Kymee Steenblik I really like you :)

Kymee Steenblik Remember how being married to each other is so fun?! FLYING MONKEY! 143!

February 18 at 2:43pm ·

This is a pretty decent amount of love I have left on his wall in the last month. Why do I do it? I don't know...I mean if I'm going to be on facebook I guess it makes sense to send love to my favorite person in the world. I like it when he sends me facebook love, it helps me to know he is thinking of me. Maybe thats why I do it? So he knows I love him and am thinking of him throughout my day :)

P.s. Yes I call him my flying monkey...don't ask and 143 is a special Temple Sq code :)

Commercial HATE!!!

I kind of have beef with commercials...here are two that drive me CRAZY right now!!! (Sorry I couldn't find a way to put them on here)

And the...

Every time I see these commercials I just want to throw something at the TV. They irritate my ears and make me want to violently shake in hopes that they will go away! I know I should just reach for the remote and press mute, but they seem to send me into a moment where I am only controlled by the sounds that make me cringe!! Is it just me? Do they drive you crazy! GRRR!

Love Actually vs. Valentine's Day

Love Actually - 14th November 2003

A culmination of love stories, that combine and collide on Christmas Eve in the city of London.

Valentine's Day - 12th February 2010

The intertwining of love stories on Valentine's Day in the city of Los Angeles

Is it just me or do these movies sound very similar? Well they are, they were filmed 7 years apart, located in major cities of different countries and take place on different prominent holidays, but they are oh so very similar.
Both movies contains intertwining and colliding love stories, some find joy and others gain broken hearts. Both movies are lighthearted and full of romantic comedy, they are cute and full of well known actors.
To me the only difference is the humor. Being from England, but living in the Sates for almost 5 years I would say I am very well acquainted with the differences in humor. I honestly am still drawn towards the dry British humor and that is why I enjoy Love Actually more (the edited version, DO NOT attempt to watch this movie unedited, bad bad bad, you can borrow my edited version if you want to see it).
It just caught my attention that these movies are so similar when I went to see Valentine's Day last weekend, they are most definitely fun and cute feel good movies and that could be why 7 years later we see an American version of Love Actually! LOVE IS ALL AROUND US!

GRAPHIC LOVE: GROSS!

GROSS right? Yeah I know and guess what? It's my thumb! I did this on thursday night (I will post the story below) and when I took the band-aid off friday morning this is what I found. As soon as I saw it I thought..."GROSS! I need to take a picture and send it to Brett, and I need to put it on facebook and on our blog!" I came to the realization that people like graphic! As gross as we claim it to be, and however much we think it shouldn't be as common as it is in the media, WE LOVE IT and thats why it is in such abundance, it sells! People have enjoyed seeing my wound in its most graphic state...if I showed you a picture now you wouldn't be as impressed or interested!

The story...
11th February 2010, at approximately 6:30pm

After coming home from a long day, Brett started on his mountain of homework and I started on dinner...a lovely Shepherd's Pie. All was going well and I was in the last stages of the cooking. I just needed to put grated cheese on top and bake it in the oven for a few minutes to melt the cheese and make it nice and warm.

I successfully started to grate the cheese and was almost done when SLIP goes my thumb right into the grater! I made an exclamation of "AH!" and Brett came to the rescue, he sent me to the bathroom to run it under water. There wasn't much pain but quite a bit of blood. Everything was going to be ok!

Luckily Kathy had sent us a little first aid kit and so we had band-aids on hand. Brett went to grab them and as he did I started to get faint...he came back to find me on the floor. I hadn't passed out, but the shock had its effects!

We put the band-aid on and Brett finished the last 2 steps of dinner whilst I sat down. Since it has been fine, just a little difficult to do things like fold laundry and write, and shower and so forth haha.

I took the band-aid off this morning and the above picture is what I found! Gross huh? It is starting to fill in a bit, but it still bleeds every now and then and hurts to bend! Maybe I will get a cool scar out of it though!!

I'm counting on you to make my day...(or week as all of you might not read this today!). This picture shows how distressed I was...

The Babysitters Club

My favorite book as an early adolescent was any book in the "Babysitters Club" series. These books were about a group of young teenagers, best friends, who had formed a babysitting club in their town. The books were set in a town in the state of Connecticut and follows their babysitting adventures as well their personal and family lives. Each of the girls has their individual and family experiences and difficulties and the books explore these issues as well as showing the fun and exciting life of these young girls.
These books were my favorite because they were very different to the kind of life I lead. I grew up in England and these books being set in America it seemed like a very different world. These girls were ambitious and their lives were full of adventure. I liked being able to live in a different world whilst I read these books. They impacted my life because it gave me the desire to be creative. In each book the girls were always coming up with ways to do new things in their lives and keep their friendships strong. I remember one summer some friends and I decided to make a little store on the green outside our houses. We would move our locations and sell toys and things we no longer wanted, I remember making 12 pounds and thinking I was so rich. I was always trying to come up with ideas that seemed more "grown-up" than the usual kids games and activities because I wanted to seem older and impress my parents with how responsible I was. I think I wanted to be like the girls in the book because they were able to do so many things independently of their parents and have a lot of fun.

My Favorite Media

My favorite media is 100% photograph. I love how a moment can be captured, stopped in time, always to be remembered. Photographs help us remember emotions, people, times and places. Below are 2 pictures I took of Oliver, my best friend's little boy. His innocence and cute chubby face have been captured forever :)

Every Kiss Starts With A Kay

Have you seen the most rent Kay's jewelry commercial? It makes me smile.
I'm pretty sure every time my husband and I watch TV together a random, cheesy, obscure, weird commercial comes on, we look at each other, give a smile with a roll of the eyes...
So many random commercials that mostly do not meet the facets of advertising, but at least they stand out enough for me to write a blog about it :)

When In Rome

My husband and I went to see "When in Rome" this weekend. We had seen the trailer, laughed a little bit and contemplated seeing it. I imagined we would see it in the dollar theater as it wasn't a "must see" for us. But as we roamed around the Gateway Mall in Salt Lake we impulsively decided to see a movie...that movie happened to be "When in Rome".
Let me tell you, the trailer did not do the movie justice! It was a lot better than the trailer made it out to be and we really enjoyed it! It was funny and endearing! It was an over-exaggerated version of what life can be like...it was like watching someones personal fable or imaginary audience.
It was your regular romantic comedy (and comedy it was!), boy meets girl, boy falls in love, girl falls in love, some disaster and adventure happens along the way and they live happily ever after!
If you are in the mood for a cute and fun movie I would recommend it, even the boys seem to like it!!
