The Babysitters Club

My favorite book as an early adolescent was any book in the "Babysitters Club" series. These books were about a group of young teenagers, best friends, who had formed a babysitting club in their town. The books were set in a town in the state of Connecticut and follows their babysitting adventures as well their personal and family lives. Each of the girls has their individual and family experiences and difficulties and the books explore these issues as well as showing the fun and exciting life of these young girls.
These books were my favorite because they were very different to the kind of life I lead. I grew up in England and these books being set in America it seemed like a very different world. These girls were ambitious and their lives were full of adventure. I liked being able to live in a different world whilst I read these books. They impacted my life because it gave me the desire to be creative. In each book the girls were always coming up with ways to do new things in their lives and keep their friendships strong. I remember one summer some friends and I decided to make a little store on the green outside our houses. We would move our locations and sell toys and things we no longer wanted, I remember making 12 pounds and thinking I was so rich. I was always trying to come up with ideas that seemed more "grown-up" than the usual kids games and activities because I wanted to seem older and impress my parents with how responsible I was. I think I wanted to be like the girls in the book because they were able to do so many things independently of their parents and have a lot of fun.
